Captcha broken

Postby CogDissident » Fri Jul 11, 2008 5:22 pm UTC

So, from all the bots posting on XKCD, it looks like the captcha is broken. Any of the moderators here have an idea for a more secure one to use?

(Decided to post here instead of general, as this sub-forum is more about actual forum-administation issues)

Are you talking about spam threads (which isn't necessarily produced by a bot) or the presence of the search bots that show up in the Who's Online display at the bottom of the board index?

Humans bypass the captchas for the bots.

When content was content, spam was spam, and there were only green, red and black.

But yeah, what saladin said.

I have a theory that the captcha's on the forums.xkcd.com forums are now easier for computers to break than humans.

Should I work on "proof of concept" code to post in the "Computer Science" thread?

There is something very simple you can do to make it harder for computers and humans resorting to image editing software.

Hint: Computers are colour-blind! Low-contrast won't stop bots!
Did you get the number on that truck?
